Rob Layne was a fighter and warrior in every sense of those words. With his FULL love of life, family, friends, music, golf, football, and good food, and bourbon - he was the picture of health and strength. But then, on December 2, 2021, two days before his 47th birthday, he was diagnosed with colon cancer out of nowhere. No family history, no known risk factors. The diagnosis came with learning that the aggressive tumor had perforated his colon after emergency surgery at Emory.
Out of surgery and letting the shock of the diagnosis sink in, Rob was ready to fight - every battle that lay ahead. And he did - he persevered through brutal rounds of chemo and radiation, showing up to every appointment with a smile and a warrior spirit. And yet, this cancer was wicked. They reached a point where the best option was a high-risk surgery to remove the tumors and wash the inside of his abdomen with heated chemotherapy (HIPEC) - the “everything” surgery. Unfortunately, just a few months after surgery, he began experiencing severe pain and the cancer spread further into his abdomen and spine.
He continued to do everything to slow the cancer's growth and spend more time with his four amazing girls- Page (17), Joy (14), Leah (8) and Alice (6), and wife Laura. Reluctantly, after almost 3 years of fighting, and with increasing pain and complications, he transitioned to home hospice to be with his family. He spent his last days enjoying every minute of every day that he could, cracking jokes with the hospice nurses, reveling in the joy of his girls, loving his sweet Laura, and welcoming a new dog to the Layne crew!
He spent his last day on earth enjoying the Alabama game and sharing in the shenanigans of his loving family. He joined with the angels of God on September 15, leaving a hole that will never be filled, but the legacy of a life full of love. Please honor Rob and his family by helping to assure that the road ahead is easier - the medical bills remain and the girls have many milestones ahead.
Any donation is so very much appreciated. The Layne family thanks you from the bottom of their hearts.
